3 Days in Phoenix Itinerary

Three days in any new city, let alone the desert, can prove challenging because it’s hard to choose the best attractions to fully experience what’s to offer—especially with so many options around. But you can just throw those thoughts out the window because we are here with an itinerary to give you that relaxed yet action-packed experience you’re looking for.

Day One: Cultural and Artistic Exploration in Roosevelt Row

Start your first day with a tranquil morning at the Japanese Friendship Garden.

Phoenix is a multicultural city, and this serene oasis offers an authentic taste of Japanese culture. With a 14-foot waterfall, stone footbridges, beautiful koi fish, and a peaceful tea shop, the garden immerses you in a slice of Japan for only $10.

Make sure you don’t forget to grab a souvenir from their high-end selection of Japanese gifts on your way out.

Next, head to Roosevelt Row Arts District , the city’s vibrant art district, just a short 3-minute drive or walk away. It’s almost nowhere on this strip you can go that you wont see a mural.

This walkable hub of creativity is filled with top-notch street art, galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Stop by the iconic murals that have become Instagram-famous for your personal photo op, and don’t miss local favorites like The Churchill: a lively marketplace with food, drinks, and live entertainment.

You can also plan your visit during the Phoenix First Friday Art Walk for a lively event featuring open studios, live music, food trucks, and family-friendly fun. It’s an experience that perfectly blends culture and community.

After soaking in the artistic vibe, treat yourself to a luxurious afternoon at JW Marriott’s AquaRidge Waterpark. A self-driving Waymo ride will take you there for around $16, offering a unique transportation experience.

Bask in the sun as you and the little one enjoy waterslides, pools, splash pads, and a lazy river—a perfect way to relax after an activity-packed morning. You can be sure to grab a refreshing cocktail or snack from one of the poolside bars and restaurants.

Day Two: Awe-Inspiring Adventure at Antelope Canyon

On your second day take off on a day trip to Antelope Canyon, a stunning natural wonder located about 4 hours from Phoenix. This sacred land, still home to the largest Native tribe in the Southwest, offers breathtaking views of geological sandstone formations shaped by water over thousands of years.

You can choose between the Upper or Lower Canyon tours, or bundle both for a full experience. Reservations are required, (in advance suggestively so you don’t miss out) as guided tours are the only way to explore this protected site. The Upper Canyon is family-friendly and ideal for easy access and photography, while the Lower Canyon offers a more challenging but more visually rewarding adventure.

For the best lighting and photos, visit midday when the sun illuminates the canyon walls, creating a mesmerizing play of colors and patterns. Bring a wide-angle lens if you’re into photography—it’s a paradise for capturing stunning visuals.

After exploring, stop by Horseshoe Bend, just a short drive from Antelope Canyon. This iconic viewpoint offers a dramatic curve of the Colorado River framed by red rock cliffs. It’s an easy 0.75-mile hike to the overlook, and the views are worth every step.

On your way back, consider dining at El Tapatio in Flagstaff for authentic Mexican cuisine or grabbing a quick bite at one of the local diners along the route.

If you’re a camper you should check out the camping option. It does require a separate reservation and you must pack out what you pack in.

Day Three: Soaring High with Hot Air Balloons

Start your final day with a magical hot air balloon ride with Rainbow Ryders. Watch the sunrise as you gently float above the desert landscape, enjoying panoramic views and a serene atmosphere. This family-friendly experience (for ages 5 and up) offers a unique perspective you won’t forget.

During the ride, the pilot will share interesting facts about the region, its wildlife, and the history of hot air ballooning. Upon landing, enjoy a traditional champagne toast—a signature of ballooning—to celebrate your adventure.

After your flight, head to Brunch & Sip, a lively eatery that turns brunch into a party. With decadent food, excellent customer service, and a vibrant ambiance, they will have you wanting to come back for more. It’s the perfect way to end your trip on a high note.

By far one of the best brunch spots in Phoenix.
